Flagship set sail with epic 'Are You Calling'

The Carolinas tend to breed bands that rely heavily on sounds of the South: banjos, foot stomps and the like. But Flagship, out of Charlotte, N.C., rock like New Yorkers the National or Las Vegas' hometown heroes the Killers. Their expansive sonics are at the forefront of their new single, "Are You Calling." With the radio-friendly gallop of the Bravery and the world-weary vocals of baritone Drake Margolnick, this number will definitely find a cozy home in Top 10s of 2013. Icy yet empathetic, "Are You Calling" introduces Flagship's upcoming self-titled debit album, due Oct. 8 on Bright Antenna Records. The 13-song collection was produced by Ben Allen, known for his ethereal works with Animal Collective and Washed Out. Feast your ears on "Are You Calling" at Consequence of Sound.
