Album Review: Highland Kites - Let Me Run (EP)

The L.A-based duo Highland Kites released the brand-new Let Me Run EP that’s sure to pull listeners into their infectious blend of new-wave folk rock. Consisting of singer/songwriter Marissa Lamar and drummer Neil Briggs, Highland Kites set out to create a short but memorable album that soothes the soul as well as the ears.

Producer Raymond Richards, who assisted the pair with their 2015 full-length album, All We Left Behind, also had a hand at bringing Let Me Run into fruition.

Highlights on the 5-track album include the endearing “Freckles” that displays Marissa’s tenderness within her vocals; and the mellow but more up-tempo “This War Inside,” which carries a mean guitar riff and brooding bassline.

Overall, Let Me Run is a freeing album effort with an air of mystery and liberation. The instrumentation is clever and bittersweet, meshing well with lucid vocals and clever wordplay. Keep your eyes on these two and listen to the Let Me Run single "This War Inside" below.
